Who we are

Started in 2023 by people from Safidon, for Safidon.

PKS Sewa Sanstha was registered on 2 October 2023 with the District Registrar of Societies, Jind, under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012. Its registered office is at Ward No. 8, near the power house in Safidon town, and under its bye-laws it may work anywhere in Haryana. In practice, almost everything we do happens in Safidon block and the villages around it.

The Sanstha is run by a governing body of seven — a president, a general secretary, a treasurer and four executive members — all of whom give their time without remuneration. Our bye-laws expressly bar office bearers from drawing any payment for serving the society, and bar the society from employing a member or a member’s close relative.

We are deliberately not a large organisation. We do not have a field staff, a fundraising team or offices in other districts. What we have is a village that knows us, a set of registrations that can be checked, and accounts that have been audited.

Creating employment opportunities for young people from the society’s own resources and in convergence with government schemes.

  • Culture and harmony

Undertaking cultural work with the government and from own resources, and taking financial and other assistance for social, cultural and religious activity so that social harmony is maintained.

  • Governance

Forming committees and sub-committees, raising and applying funds for the above objects, and keeping the Sanstha away from politics.

On the use of our funds. Under the conditions of our registration, the property and income of the Sanstha may be applied only to the objects above. No part of it may be paid to any member as bonus or dividend. If the society is ever wound up, no member takes any of its property — it passes to another registered society with the same objects.

Where we work

Safidon block, District Jind.

Safidon is a tehsil headquarters on the Hansi branch of the Western Yamuna Canal, about 35 km north-east of Jind town, connected by road and rail to Panipat, Karnal, Kaithal and Delhi. District Jind had a population of about 13.34 lakh at the 2011 Census, of which roughly 77 per cent lived in villages.

Two figures shape most of what we do. The district’s sex ratio was 871 women to 1,000 men, and rural female literacy stood well below the male figure. That is why girls’ schooling and women’s welfare take up so much of a small society’s time.
