How we are governed
The rules come from the bye-laws, not from custom.
Our bye-laws were adopted by the general body on 3 August 2023 and registered with the memorandum. They are what the Sanstha is actually bound by, and they are stricter than most people expect of a village society.
- Governing bodySeven members — president, general secretary, treasurer and four executive members
- TermThree years from the date the District Registrar approves the election
- MeetingsAt least one governing body meeting each quarter; at least four in a financial year
- Annual general meetingWithin six months of the close of the financial year, to adopt the audited accounts
- RemunerationNone. Office bearers may not be paid for their service to the society
- Employment of relativesBarred. No member or close relative of an office bearer may be employed by the Sanstha
- Bank operationsAccounts operated jointly by any two of the president, secretary and treasurer
- Receipts and paymentsThrough banking channels — demand draft, pay order, cheque, transfer or RTGS
- AuditAnnual audit by a chartered accountant who is not a member, or a relative of a member, of the governing body
- MembershipLife membership fee ₹500; a maximum of 551 life members; minimum age 21
